About Me
Welcome! I am so glad you are here! My name is Melissa Emerson, author of Mostly Thriving. For the past 10+ years I’ve been in the thick of figuring out how to be a wife to the love of my life and raising four amazing kiddos (ages 10, 8, 5 and 2).
Life has kept me busy to say the least. But in spite of all the things that fill my days, I love to write, to inspire, to encourage and to help others feel connected and not alone.
Literally for EIGHT years I’ve been dreaming of starting a blog. During that time a lot of life has happened! Here are just a few of the experiences that make me who I am today:
- I have experienced life as a full-time-working mom, then started working part time, then made the decision to stay home. So I’ve seen all the worlds of a mom and each one of them has its own unique challenges.
- I have learned the ups and downs of life as a mom of one, then added a second baby, and then a third and now am experiencing a very busy life as a mom of four.
- I graduated with my masters degree while continuing to “stay home” with my kids and when I was pregnant with our third baby. She was born two weeks after my graduation.
- I have led a Moms Ministry which creates a place for moms to make meaningful connections with one another. I have the privilege of guiding and equipping leaders to serve moms of all ages. It is my passion, which consumes much of my weekly daytime schedule.
- I have had struggles in my marriage and worked hard to grow closer to my husband through them.
- I have met new friends who are important in my life but I have also experienced pain and loss in friendship.
- I have struggled with postpartum depression and discovered I also struggle with anxiety.
- I have learned to navigate life with a husband who travels for work, while I stay home to care for our four children.
Life has been busy, fun, stretching and full. I look back on these past years and realize that the life experience I have now is full of rich and meaningful life-lessons of motherhood, friendship and self-growth. These are lessons I wouldn’t have had if I started this blog sooner.
I promise to always be real. I promise to share the good and bad and of course show you what I have learned along the way. My goal is to encourage you, make you laugh and help you walk through life feeling a little more seen because you are not the only one! I want you to walk away knowing that it is okay not to have it all together or to be the perfect version of yourself…yet. Each day you can get a little bit better.
I am passionate about helping others thrive in their homes, in their motherhood and in their self-confidence. To thrive we have to continue to learn every day. We have to be willing to reflect and be honest and vulnerable about the things that are going well and the things that need a whole lot of work. I don’t have all the answers. Not even close but my hope is that together we can get to a place where we are mostly thriving and are better, more confident women because of it.
It is one of the most freeing parts of my journey so far. I am confident in who I am and who I am becoming. I am proud of the fact that I am MOSTLY THRIVING! Come along on this journey with me and let me help you thrive too!
“To fully thrive, we must not only eliminate the stressors but also actively seek joyful, loving, fulfilling lives that stimulate growth processes.”
